Your Diet While Recovering from All-on-4 Surgery

Are you getting prepared for your All-on-4 surgery? You might be excited about getting closer to your full smile and enjoying your favorite foods once again. However, before you can comfortably dig into them, your mouth will need to recover after your procedure. During this time, what you eat and drink is important, as certain items can lead to irritation or increase the risk of failure. Here’s a guide on what your diet should look like.

Eating for the First Two Weeks

You should expect to feel sore for the first couple of weeks after your placement surgery. Pain will gradually go away over time, but it’s important to only consume liquid foods. This will give your mouth a break, as chewing can be especially uncomfortable during this time.

Broth, pureed vegetable soup, meal replacement shakes, yogurt, and milkshakes are a few options you can have. Be sure to search recipes and stock up on items before your procedure; that way, when you get home, you don’t need to worry about it and simply relax.

Don’t forget to drink plenty of water to keep your mouth moist. Many people also say they still feel hungry when drinking only fluids. Your intake might not be as much since you had oral surgery, but make sure the stuff you have is packed with nutrients, so you can support your body during this time.

Your Diet for the Next Several Months

As your soreness dissipates, you may start to introduce softer foods, but you should then stick to this for the next several months. Your implants will be fusing to your jawbone, so it’s important that nothing gets in the way of this and that they form a strong bond. To ensure this goes without a hitch, you can have applesauce, mashed potatoes, avocados, soft fruits (like bananas), boiled vegetables, pasta, eggs, hummus, and other similarly gentle options.

After You Finish with Your Recovery

When you finally get your restoration placed on top of your all-on-4 implants, then you can go back to your normal diet. You can feel confident digging into a wide range of foods knowing that your full smile is securely in place. That said, you should avoid eating anything overly hard, like ice cubes or hard candies. They can damage your results as they would natural teeth. That way, your restored grin stays in great shape for longer.
